About Robert C. Korta

Robert C. Korta has been an accomplished artist for over 60 years.  Since he first picked up a pencil with the intention of creating a picture at the age of 5, he had no doubt that art would be his life’s work. Before turning to fine art full time, his career emphasis was as an illustrator.  Robert was head illustrator for Popular Mechanics Magazine during which time he was commissioned by First Lady Mamie Eisenhower to paint the portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower as a surprise anniversary gift.  Two series of illustrations Robert did for Popular Mechanics Magazine, “The History of Flight” and “The History of Auto Racing”, appeared in the Smithsonian Institute.  Robert left PopularMechanics after ten years to freelance.  He was an illustrator of the Dick & Jane school books for Scott Foresman & Co. and did a beautiful series of religious art for Zondervan Corporation for their project of a multi-volume set of bible stories.  Robert also did text book and children’s book illustrations for Harper-Row, Rand McNally & Co., and Western Publishing Co.  In his spare time, he did portraits, landscapes, seascapes, and still-lifes for family and friends.
Robert works in watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pencil. His watercolor marine paintings show his dramatic mastery of water, while on the lighter side, his fantasy paintings of the family cat have proven very popular.
